Laela Jeyne Patterns have just released a gorgeous Fall 2017 collection – Family Photos. Included in it are two gorgeous dress patterns, the Juliette Dress for women, and the Julie Dress for girls. I tested both, and am really happy with how they have turned out.
Julie is a super cute modest dress, with a higher front neckline, normal or scoop back, circle skirt, (perfect for twirling!) and zipper closure. It also has three different sleeve length options included in the pattern.
I made Miss Violet a size 3 (She measured between a size 2 and 3) with elbow length sleeves and scoop back. There is a little bit of grow room through the bodice and sleeves, which is great- She will get more wear from this Julie dress!
The bodice is fully lined, with the zipper not extending into the skirt- making the dress a bit quicker to sew!
For this version (I’ve made a few!) I used some lovely cotton I bought online a year or so ago from Dizzy Daisy Fabric Studios called Vintage Rose. I really love the Julie Dress in this fabric, it looks so simple and sweet, with a cute vintage feel.
The instructions for the pattern are really clear- though I did do an alternative sleeve joining method, to have the stitching enclosed within the bodice and lining.
I did not feel the need to change the pattern in any way. I really like the neckline, hem length, the sleeve length, and the bodice width. No need to change something I already like!
Violet keeps reaching for this dress in her wardrobe- she calls it “my pretty dress” which is such an apt name:) I can see she will be wanting to live in this dress over Summer!
